What Are Telegram Gifts? Collectible (NFT) Gifts Explained
Telegram gifts are animated items that people buy inside the app and pass to friends in private chats or to channels. A gift can stay a keepsake on your profile or be upgraded into a collectible: a one-of-a-kind version with its own model, backdrop, symbol and serial number. Collectibles can be traded, and each one can be withdrawn to the TON blockchain as an NFT.
What are gifts on Telegram?
Gifts arrived with the October 2024 update. Any Telegram user can open a contact’s profile, tap Send a Gift, pick an item and add a short message or emoji. The recipient gets it as a service message in the chat.
A received gift can be displayed on the Gifts tab of the profile, where visitors see it. Depending on privacy settings, new arrivals may appear there automatically. Channels can receive gifts too and show them on their profile.

A regular gift works like a greeting card with a fixed design. Telegram collectible gifts carry special attributes and behave like numbered pieces of a limited series, which is why people collect, wear and trade them.
How a regular gift becomes a collectible
Not every gift type qualifies: the upgrade is available only for types that Telegram has opened for it. The feature launched on January 1, 2025, with more than 20 upgradable gifts, including Homemade Cake, Jelly Bunny, Spiced Wine and Santa Hat.
The upgrade is paid in Telegram Stars. Telegram says the fee covers blockchain costs, and its developer docs show the price can change over time. The sender can prepay it when buying, so the other person unwraps a finished collectible in the chat. Since August 2025 anyone can pay for the upgrade of an item on someone else’s profile.
The result is random. The upgraded piece gets an appearance from dozens of variations drawn by Telegram artists, plus a backdrop, a symbol and a number. You can keep the original note and the names of who sent it to whom; those details can be removed later for a fee.
Models, backdrops and symbols: what makes a gift rare
Every collectible is a combination of three traits:
- Model – the design of the item itself. One set can include dozens of models.
- Backdrop – the color gradient behind it.
- Symbol – a small pattern repeated across the backdrop.
Each trait has its own drop chance. Telegram’s API stores it as a per-mille value, and crafted items use named tiers: Uncommon, Rare, Epic and Legendary. The fewer copies share a trait, the rarer it is. Rarity drives demand, which is why marketplaces let buyers filter by model, backdrop and symbol.
A real example: rarity inside Plush Pepes
On September 26, 2026, our catalog pulled the full trait breakdown of the Plush Pepes set:
- 2,470 items in the Fragment data we pulled (Telegram counts more issued in total, since not every item is on Fragment);
- 50 models, 60 backdrops and 280 symbols;
- the Cozy Galaxy model appears on 19 items (0.77%), while Spectrum appears on 82;
- the rarest backdrops, Azure Blue and Roman Silver, sit on 17 items each;
- the Smartphone symbol exists on exactly one Plush Pepe.
Two pieces from one set can look alike and still differ sharply in rarity.
Supply, serial numbers and new releases
Collectibles are limited. Each gift type has a capped total supply, a set grows as owners upgrade their copies, and every piece carries its own number, shown after the name (for example, Lol Pop #135264). Across the 120 sets in our catalog on September 26, 2026, Intelligence Cups had 7 items and Algorithm Cups 27, while Lol Pops counted 66,990 and Snoop Doggs 55,139. Together they held more than 1.37 million pieces.
New limited gifts now come out through auctions, introduced in November 2025. Bids are placed in Stars over several rounds; the top bidders of each round receive an item, and your place sets its number, so the leader of round one gets #1. Bids that don’t win are refunded at the end.
Crafting, added in February 2026, works in the other direction. You combine up to four pieces of the same type for a chance at an Uncommon, Rare, Epic or Legendary version. More inputs raise the odds, but every item you put in is burned whatever the outcome, so crafting can shrink the number of pieces in circulation.
Ownership on the TON blockchain
Inside Telegram, a collectible lives in your account. You can withdraw it to the TON blockchain: open My Profile > Gifts, tap the item, then Transfer > Send via Blockchain. Telegram’s developer documentation describes this as converting the piece into an NFT that is imported on Fragment. The step asks for your two-step verification password, and an item may become exportable only after a set date.
Once the NFT sits in a TON wallet, the wallet owner controls it, even if they lose access to or delete their account. It can be listed on Fragment, which sells these items for TON, or on other TON NFT marketplaces such as Getgems. A wallet-held NFT can be shown on a Telegram profile without giving up ownership.
How to view, wear and transfer a collectible gift
View, pin or hide it
Your items live under My Profile > Gifts. Tap one to see its model, backdrop, symbol and number, plus a share link in the t.me/nft/ format that you can drop into a message. You decide which pieces stay visible to visitors, pin favorites to the top of the profile and sort them into themed groups.
Wear it and use it in chats
If your account shows a Wear button on the piece, tapping it sets the piece as an emoji status next to your name. Your profile then adopts the backdrop colors and the symbol of that piece. Some types can also style your messages with their color palette and pattern. Owners of certain types get a chat theme for private chats, an animated wallpaper generated from that piece’s model and backdrop. Heart Lockets, Durov’s Caps, Precious Peaches and Plush Pepes were the first to get one.
Transfer, sell or accept an offer
A collectible can go to another user or a channel; depending on the item, a transfer fee in Stars may apply. Selling starts from the item’s page: press Sell and enter the amount you want. Other users then find it in the built-in marketplace, your profile marks it as on sale, and Unlist cancels the listing. The API supports prices in Stars or TON, and Telegram keeps a commission from each sale.
Are Telegram gifts real money?
Not directly. A regular gift can’t be sold or passed on. Apart from an upgrade, the only other exit is converting it back into Stars where Telegram allows it: the window is limited, gifts won at auction don’t qualify, and the gift is destroyed.
Collectibles are different because people trade them. You can sell one in the built-in marketplace for Stars or TON, accept an offer, or withdraw it and sell the NFT for TON on Fragment or another marketplace. TON is a cryptocurrency, so at that point the item has a price in money. Each item’s info screen estimates what it would fetch on resale and shows the average price comparable pieces sold for.
Prices depend on the set and on the traits. On September 26, 2026, the cheapest Lol Pop in our catalog cost $9.56, while the cheapest Plush Pepe cost $12,740.77. Prices can fall, sales carry a commission, and nobody guarantees a buyer at your asking price. Treat collectibles as items with a market price, not as savings.

FAQ
Can I send a gift without showing my name?
Yes. When sending, turn on the option to hide your name. The recipient still sees who sent it, but other people viewing their profile don’t.
What happens to my gifts if I lose my Telegram account?
Telegram presents the blockchain transfer as the way to keep permanent control. A collectible withdrawn to TON stays with the wallet that holds it, even if the account is lost or deleted.
Can someone make an offer on my gift?
Yes, since December 2025. Another user opens your collectible, taps Offer to Buy and names a price in Stars or TON with a time limit of up to 72 hours. The offer arrives as a service message, and the payment is reserved for that period. If you accept, the item moves to the buyer automatically; if you decline or let the offer expire, the money is refunded in full.
